The Junior Equestrian

Discuss this and more on the forums.

Our Purpose

The Junior Equestrian was started because we felt that junior riders needed their own source of information pertaining especially to them, providing information, guides, updates, answers and opinions for the serious junior equestrian with contributions from professionals in the industry to the teen riders themselves. This includes riding and as well as unmounted knowledge for a well rounded source of information.

The future. We plan to provide resources to aid riders in continuing riding throughout college and adulthood, and possibly as a career. Whichever way you choose to enjoy equine company in the future, we want to provide the information to help get you there by helping you find working student positions or finding scholarships for you.

Showing.  Showing is often a very important part of the youth rider's career, and we would like keep you informed. Whether you compete avidly or just ride for the pleasure of it, show updates and riding information for those frequenting the competition arena is helpful. We'll try our best to stay updated.

Making it work. It can be very hard to balance school, other activities outside of school, social life, and horses, and we'd like to provide support in making everything work. Horseback riding is also the second most expensive sport (after sailing!) so we'd like to offer suggestions for summer jobs and other ways to save some money.

The barn. We want to keep you informed of new products, good or bad, and help you in not wasting your hard earned money. We hope to serve all audiences, from those looking for good quality at modest prices for everyday schooling, to those buying the very highest quality and requiring proper appearances for showing. In addition, we know what is truly important- the stable materials. Grooming products, tack trunks, wheelbarrows, and horse apparel are daily appliances that always need to function or your day to run smoothly. We'll try to point out any products which will save you money or make your life easier!

We will try to cater to all juniors, from teens riding at the top of the show circuit, to those scraping up enough money to afford riding a few times a week and further their skills. Kids from both scenarios have an interesting story to tell, and both types of riders are the professional horse people of the (relatively) near future

How It Will Work

We'd really like a magazine that truly caters to the needs of junior riders, meaning we want contributions from both riders themselves as well as professionals.  We're thinking about having some regular columns as well as contributing authors.  All of our ideas so far can be found on the forum, so go there and help make this work!

The Plan

  1. Start a website to gauge interest level.
  2. Use it to begin an "e-zine" and figure out content.
  3. Contact potential advertisers with proof of audience and interest.
  4. Contact a publishing company to make it a print magazine available to all!
