Hunter/Jumper News: In Brief

Royal Agricultural Winter Fair Nov.5th-14th, 2004
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
by Catie Chant

The Royal Winter Fair is one of the four most prestigious indoor shows (The other three being Harrisburg, Penn., Washington, DC, and Madison Square Gardens, NY).  Each year it showcases the best of the best, ranging from Hackney ponies on the line to the CN World Cup Grand prix, and is very exciting and glamorous. It is always interesting to see the look on spectators' faces upon their
realisation that you, decked out in formal attire for the evening gala, are the same person they saw tramping around in dirty paddock boots earlier that day!)

Eric Van Der Vleuten and Audi's Jikke won the $60 000 Big Ben International Jumping Challenge, securing his "leading international rider" title. Leslie Reid and her Dutch Warmblood gelding, Mark, were on top after the World Cup dressage, and Todd Minikus of the United States and Flier were Victorious in the $60 000 CN World Cup Grand Prix. Ian Millar won a record ninth Canadian Showjumping Championship title, aboard In Style, a horse thought to be the next Big Ben.  Carly Campbell-Cooper won the "Alfred Rogers" Talent Squad Championship with Croft Temptation.

Other Royal Champions included: Melissa Marcotte and Infinity, in the Running Fox CET Medal Finals, Casanova and Sarah Bates in The Younger A/A Hunters, Enterprise and Corie Bannister in the A/O Hunters, Vintage Country and Tatiana Dzavik in the Championship Junior Working Hunters, Carte Blanche and Kathleen Selke in the Championship Children's Working Hunters, and Mark Leyton and Nairobi in the Junior/Amateur jumpers.
